SGX:F83.SI:Cosco Shipping International (Singapore)

1HFY2025 earnings rose 15% y-o-y to S$2.63M on stronger logistics, ship repair, and marine engineering revenue. Total sales climbed 11% to S$91M. Logistics contributed 89% of revenue, up 12% y-o-y. Gains offset by lower property management income and reduced contributions from associates including COSCO SHIPPING Bulk SEA, PT. Ocean Global Shipping Logistics, SINOVNL, and Goldlead Supply Chain.

SGX:KUO.SI:International Cement Group

1HFY2025 earnings surged to $14.9M from $933K, with revenue up 51% to $165.1M, driven by Kazakhstan operations and new Korcem plant output. Tajikistan’s Mohir plant sales rose 36% y-o-y. Gross margin hit 36%, supported by higher prices and strong demand from Chinese infrastructure projects. FX gains of $10.5M boosted results.

Late last year, this column predicted that SGX:G13.SI:Genting Singapore would see stronger profitability in 2025, sparking a rebound in its beaten-down share price. So far, that call has been off the mark.

Singtel Delivers Robust Q1FY26 Results: Profit Surges, Optus Shines, and Major Airtel Divestment Unlocked S\$2B

From Jan 1 to Aug 8, Genting Singapore’s total return was under 0.1%, making it the sixth-worst performer in the Straits Times Index, which gained over 15.5% in the same period.

The company’s H1 2025 results, released Aug 7, triggered earnings forecast cuts and even prompted warnings that the stock could be dropped from the MSCI Singapore Index.

Despite the weak showing, some of the original bullish arguments remain. Revenue and earnings from Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) could improve with hotel refurbishments and new attractions under the S$6.8B “RWS 2.0” expansion. The casino’s “win rate” has recovered from last year’s slump, and valuations remain undemanding with a decent dividend yield.

OCBC called 2024 a “year of refurbishments” for RWS, expecting stronger growth from 2025.

Still, H1 2025 revenue slid 10.4% y-o-y to S$1.21B, net profit fell 34.2% to S$234.7M, and adjusted Ebitda dropped 25.8% to S$423.7M. Q2 alone saw revenue down 6.1% from Q1 and adjusted Ebitda down 20.3%.

Analysts attribute the weakness to RWS attraction closures for RWS 2.0 construction, deterring mass-market gamblers and non-gaming visitors. CGS International believes this allowed rival Marina Bay Sands to gain market share.

The outlook could brighten as works wrap up. Last month, RWS opened the Weave mall and the new Singapore Oceanarium, with The Laurus hotel to follow. OCBC says the phased RWS 2.0 rollout from H2 2025 could lift revenue, margins, and market share.

Risks remain. Visitor arrivals in H1 2025 were 8.3M up just 1.9% y-o-y and slightly down from H2 2024. In Nov 2024, RWS’ casino licence renewal was cut to two years after regulators deemed its tourism performance unsatisfactory.

Even so, analysts are not universally bearish. CGS kept its “add” rating but trimmed its earnings forecasts for 20252027 by up to 13%, cutting its target price to S$0.835 from S$1.05. OCBC maintained “buy” but reduced its target to S$0.96 from S$1.03. Maybank lowered its 2025 earnings forecast by 16% but sees the hit from construction as temporary, shaving its target to S$1.00 from S$1.01.

Genting Singapore closed at S$0.735 on Aug 12, unchanged. Based on the 2024 dividend of S$0.04 per share, the yield stands at 5.4%. The stock will trade ex-dividend for its H1 2025 payout of S$0.02 on Aug 27.
