Oil Prices Sink to Four-Month Low Ahead of Opec+ Meeting

US West Texas Intermediate crude dropped US$1.30, or 2.1%, to settle at US$60.48 a barrel on Thursday (Oct 2). The settlement marked the lowest since May 30, extending its losing streak to a fourth straight session as concerns over oversupply weighed on the market.

Brent crude futures fell US$1.24, or 1.9%, to close at US$64.11 a barrel, the lowest since Jun 2. The drop adds to a series of declines amid speculation that Opec+ may boost supply in the coming months.

According to three sources familiar with the talks, Opec+ could raise oil production by up to 500,000 barrels per day in November — three times the increase seen for October. Saudi Arabia is reportedly leading the push to reclaim global market share, fueling concerns of a supply glut.
